ORGANISATION OF CAST AND CREW
This page shows how I contacted and organised both the cast and crew before filming.
The first text is an email I sent out to the main cast and crew.
Hey Everyone,
I’ve put a bunch on crucial information into this email that outlines my film and what I need all of you to do and know.
I’m sending this information in a group email so that everyone can get a sense of what each character is like, and other notes on how i’d like them to be portrayed.
I have attached a copy of the script to this email, for those who haven’t read it yet PLEASE DO.
Firstly, thanks so much for helping me out and acting in my film! It’s very stressful and I have a lot of extras to manage also so please make it easy to direct, and any help during filming would be happily accepted.
We are filming on the 1st to 4th of July;1st-2nd July at Red Betty (a bar in Brunswick)3rd-4th July at Clifton Hill Train Station
It will be a bit chaotic on the first 2 days because I have 15-20 extras who are going to be in the bar, so please bear with me!
LOGLINE: A drunken macho party-boy wants to celebrate his birthday the best way possible, but one call from his sister throws him into a downwards spiral where his nightmares become real.
The film is following dramatic and neo-noir conventions while also being a social commentary on street harassment. Essentially, it is a story of a perpetrator learning to walk in someone else’s shoes and realising his mistakes. It is inspired by 10 hours in New York and the instagram page catcallsofnyc
I am using a continuous motif of colour in my film; Red and Blue. These colours symbolise crime and conflicting sides of ones personality.
**This is from my folio**My production is inspired by both personal and anecdotal experiences of street harassment (especially walking alone at night), and the way in which this affects the victim. ‘Red Betty’ will explore a flipped reality of provocation, by placing a male character in female’s shoes. Through this, the characters’ own actions will be reciprocated back to him, and he will learn to understand effects of his behaviour.
I will send all of you individually a call sheet.I need JK,VERA,MASON and HAEZAN on the 1st-2nd July (at RED BETTY) from around 1pm-7pm (but lots of time for breaks and this is just giving me HUGE leeway so don’t expect it to actually be that long). I need JK, LARA, OSCAR, NINA, HAEZAN and STAZJA on the 3rd-4th July (at CLIFTON HILL STATION) from 8pm – 11pm/ish.
I have mentioned some inspirations for characters and the film below.These links show what style I am trying to achieve;

CASTJK:Costa is a macho, overconfident young man. His personality is a bit like Cook from Skins and Mark Renton from Trainspotting. He is intoxicated throughout most of the film, therefore he is a bit clumsy and unfocused. I have used the music video Cavalier as an inspiration for his journey. JK, I am going to suss out some fake tattoos and costume for your character. If you could watch the videos below, it shows the style i’m going for, and the anti-hero archetype Costa is based off (although he has a moral character arc and doesn’t play to this archetype the whole way through). The clip from transporting is a similar scene I am trying to create when Costa follows Essie outside, although unlike trainspotting , it doesn’t go the way Costa wants…

Vera:I’ve already met with you, so I’ve outlined Essie a bit. I’ve got below the clip from Trainspotting that I was telling you about. Essie is a sassy, bitchy young woman, yet the audience is on her side. I want you to have a look at the female character in the clip, and also at the femme fatale character archetype.

Lara:Al is Costa’s sister, and she is just as over-confident and sure of herself. Al is what drives the story forward, and the reasonable sense at the end who beats the bad. She is the victim, but doesn’t want to be seen as such.Essentially, she was supposed to meet with Costa earlier that night, yet he didn’t show. Obviously, she is pissed and want to just get home (as she has been out partying). There isn’t much sources of inspiration that I can show you currently, but the main thing is you channeling her confident attitude.
Oscar:Oscar, your character is very minor but very important. You need to channel intimidating and sought, as you’re playing the ‘MAN’ at the end who is harassing Al. Don’t refrain from being rough and mean. The main thing to note is how your character in knocked out. I am trying to find a way to organise this properly so it’s done in the safest way possible!! You’re almost a reflection of who Costa is at the start of the film, so note that.
Mason:You’re playing Jay (one of Costa’s friends). He is alike Costa but a sidekick. Basically, you’re all getting along together, and laughing at Costa’s experience with Essie. You will be wearing red, adding to the continuous motif.
Haezan:You’re playing the other friend, Liam. He is Costa’s other sidekick, and finds the confrontation amusing. You will be wearing Blue, a juxtaposition to Mason’s blue. You’re also going to be the cop, as we don’t see his face, just his cuffs.
Nina and Stazja:I just need you two to play the girls in the background… nothing special and no acting actually required.
CREW
Haezan, Lucinda and Nina:
I’m relying on you to help me out with the filming, organising and everything else. I need you free 1st-4th July (although its not the worst thing in the world if you’re busy at some point in that time, just tell me)
Haezan, hopefully you can help me lug equipment around everywhere? Lucinda, I’m hoping on using your camera skills and having you as my sidekick in the project!Nina, I’ve already talked to you about it but you’re basically my manager!!!
Any questions, please email me or send me a text: +61 405 542 715
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS WITH DATES/TIMES ASAP
I will be sending you all a call sheet separately (probably tomorrow).
Thank you all so so so much!
