time management

 Time management

There are two different aspects of time management related to production, this being during production and then post-production.

This is a screenshot from the group message I made with the extras. They all texted me around 11pm when they were supposed to get to the bar at 10:30

During Production:

This is a very brief text conversation between my brother and I outlining what time we were planning on starting on the Monday.

It was really difficult to stick to the shooting schedule during production on the first 2 nights, as we had planned to shoot all extras first so that they could leave as early as possible. This was not the case in the end, as most of the extras either pulled out last minute, or were very late (see photos).

On the second day, we spent a lot of time filming B-Roll in the bar, and therefore didn’t start the actual scenes planned until around 8pm. This meant that we were behind by about 2 hours, and we therefore finished off a lot later than expected (around 12am). I bought everyone dinner again to make them happier 🙂

Post-Production:

The time management for post production is extremely important, and I knew this from the get go so I planned on finishing certain aspects of my product 2 days before it was due to make sure that I wasn’t doing anything last minute.

There were certain due dates that I needed to adhere to, so I placed these in my calendar and made sure to get an alert 2 days before. The most important dates revolved around authentication of my work, and a test screening on the 29th of August.

To make sure that my film would be ready to screen to a test audience on this date, I put the raw footage in a timeline on final cut pro x and made audio, image and narrative line up before honing in on the smaller details such as police sirens and colour grading.

On the 29th of August I had a full timeline and an almost finished film. I tried to get the whole film ready by this date, but was waiting on JK (the main actor) to send me some audio files to use in the underpass scene. Without the audio files, the film still made sense and I received a lot of positive feedback from my target audience.

The final SAT is due on the 9th of September, which is easy for me as I am currently focusing on tiny last minute details and I still have 2 weeks.
